The Barcelona attacker now has seven assists in this season's competition, going level with the previous high, held by Xavi, Mesut Ozil, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Neymar has equalled the mark for Champions League assists in a season.
It may only be November, but in setting up Lionel Messi to score Barcelona’s opener against Celtic in Glasgow, the Brazil international chalked up his seventh assist of the campaign.
With 24 minutes on the clock, the attacker lifted an inch-perfect through pass to his team-mate, who fired the ball inside Craig Gordon’s near post to give Luis Enrique’s side the edge.
Neymar’s feat is all the more remarkable in that he has achieved it in under five matches. The 24-year-old's assist statistic is greatly helped by the four decisive passes he played in the Group C opener against Celtic, before providing the final ball for Arda Turan's equaliser at Borussia Monchengladbach, and Messi's goal in their loss to Manchester City.
He now becomes the fourth player to provide seven assists in a season, with Xavi setting the record with Barcelona in 2008-09, and Mesut Ozil and Zlatan Ibrahimovic also reaching that tally in 2010-11 and 2012-13 respectively.
