Mourinho has said that Lindelof will be slowly gelled with the Manchester United team after having to deal with watching the red devil’s win against West Ham United last Sunday from the stands.
After arriving from Benfica in a £30m deal, it was expected
that Sweden International; Victor Lindelof will kick off his career at Old
Trafford as the last piece of bringing back the good old days of Vidic and
Ferdinand with a partnership with the outstanding Eric Baily.
But that will not be the case according to Manchester
United’s coach; Jose Mourinho. According to him, he felt that Real Madrid was
too early for him and won’t have been featured in the match if Jones and Baily
were not suspended.
“I
think Real Madrid was too early for him,” Mourinho said of the UEFA Super Cup defeat on
Tuesday. “He played because Jones and
Bailly were both suspended.”
“I’ve
had players coming from different leagues to the Premier League and normally
it’s not easy. The difference between Lukaku and Matic is that they have years
and years [of experience in] the Premier League.
“I
brought in 2004 a phenomenal central defender to England: Ricardo
Carvalho. He was one of the best central defenders in the last decade of the
Premier League, but he struggled.
“It
was difficult for him to adapt in the beginning. I think Victor is a little bit
of that and he’s going to have that time.”
The centre back who was heavily featured in the red devils
pre – season will need to wait for his time to show his worth.
This is not the first time Jose Mourinho have done something
like this; with Mhkitaryan who was brought in last season a perfect example.
